Around Town Bicycles became one of the best bike shops in America in 2013 according to the National Bicycle Dealer's Association (NBDA).

"As a third-generation bicycle seller, I am proud that our Around Town Bicycles appeared in the list of best shops," co-owner Tom Jones said.

The NBDA used mystery shopping to evaluate the shops. The shoppers visited stores, made purchases, monitored websites, called by phone, and sent mail requests in order to evaluate the performance of stores from a customer viewpoint. Evaluated categories included customer service, personnel expertise, operational work quality, involvement of the local community, and so on.

Obviously, the mystery shoppers and the NBDA were impressed by what they saw in Around Town Bicycles.

"First of all, Around Town Bicycles tries to solve the customer's problem and do their best for the customer to be able to bike," as the resulting article reads. "They know that understanding and satisfaction of customer needs make their business successful. Showing patience and enthusiasm, they neither evaluate nor criticize clients. They constantly improve quality of their work and work with pleasure. This year they helped to create Luzerne County Bikes & Walks, a human rights group, to address the lack of bicycle paths and pedestrian infrastructure in their region."

Coming in first place allows Around Town Bicycles to use the logo "the best American bike shop" in its promotional materials for the next year.
"Now we are famous," Tom Jones says.
