According to a study by the Temkin Group, good service is made of 3 facets of customer-and-company interaction: functionality, accessibility, and affectivity. The annual Best Customer Experience rating is based on these three components. According to the rating, Publix, Trader Joe's, Aldi groceries and Chick-fil-A restaurant rank higher than Amazon.com in 2013.
This does matter since Amazon.com and its founder Jeff Bezos are both famous for being almost fanatical about customer satisfaction.
Despite the fact that the Temkin rating covered 19 industries in 2013, it is retailers who are clearly the leaders in service quality in the USA. 19 out of the 20 best companies are retail businesses – restaurants, car showrooms, shops, and other retailers. Meanwhile, banks, insurance, financial services, telecommunications, hardware manufacturing, and car rentals rank last.
